This is a timeline of various political, legal, military, social, economic and environmental events that have occurred in Oceania (a region encompassing the states of Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa, Micronesia, Tonga, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Tuvalu, Nauru) that are relevant to libertarian socialism.

  • 1943: The Maasina Ruru movement for indigenous liberation and workers' rights begins in the Solomon Islands.
  • 1946: The three-year long Pilbara Strike begins Aboriginal Australians struggle for their rights and dignity against Australia's policies of white supremacy and exploitation of Aboriginal workers.

1950s

  • 1952: The Massina Ruru movement succeeds, winning massive wage increases for workers in the Solomon Islanders and a democratic indigenous council.

1970s

  • 1971: The Harco Work-In occurs in Sydney, Australia, starting a movement across Australia for workers' control that lasts throughout the 1970s.
  • 1972: The Sydney Opera House Work-In occurs in Sydney, Australia in protest of the firing of a worker and mistreatment by the bosses. The construction of the Sydney Opera House improves under workers' self-management.
  • 1975: The Nymboida Mine Work-In occurs in Nymboida, Australia as coal miners protest the attempted closing of their mine, running the mine for four years under workers' control.
