Timeline of Anarchism in Southern Africa: Difference between revisions

This is a timeline of various political, legal, military, social, economic and environmental events that have occurred in Southern Africa (an area that includes the states of South Africa, Lesotho, eSwatini, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Malawi and Mozambiqe) that are relevant to libertarian socialism.

1900s

1935: Copperminers' in Rhodesia (now Zambia) go on strike over safety concerns and high taxes.
1945: Railway workers in Zambia and Zimbabwe strike for better pay and an end to racism.
1971: Ovambo migrant workers launch a general strike for rights in Namibia
1988:

2000s

2005: Abhali BaseMjondolo founded
2018: The Kanyama Riots occurs in Zambia, as street vendors attempt to resist closure.
