Egged provides about 35% of Israel's public transport services, employs about 6,500 workers and operates a fleet of 2,950 buses. Egged buses transport about 900,000 passengers per day. It was created from the merger of four smaller worker cooperatives that provided bus services in 1933.
Negatives
Egged has often been fully supportive of Zionist and patriarchal ideas, enforcing gender segregation on their buses for 20 years and delivering troops and supplies to battlefronts during various conflicts involving Israel. Although Egged does demonstrate the possibility for transport to be organised along libertarian socialist lines, we must condemn it for it's reinforcement of bigoted concepts and social hierarchy.
