Iceland is a liberal capitalist state in Western Europe near Norway, the UK and Greenland. It's generally regarded as one of the most progressive countries in the world.

Positives and Negatives

Positives

  • Iceland has the highest rate of trade union membership in the world.
  • Iceland is considered the most peaceful country in the world, with low violent crime and participation in no wars in the 20th and 21st century, except for World War II.
  • Iceland follows the Nordic Model and provides universal health care and free education for its citizens.
  • Iceland has no military except for a lightly armed coast guard.
  • Iceland runs almost completely on renewable energy.

Negatives

  • The Icelandic government has repeatedly promised to pull out of NATO, but has failed to deliver on said promise.
  • Iceland had major issues of corruption and abuse by the finance sector which led to a revolution in 2009.
  • Iceland has a very famous case of police misconduct - The Reykjavik Confessions
