The Federal Republic of Somalia is a liberal capitalist state located in Eastern Africa near Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen and the Seychelles. It contains the disputed states of Somaliland.
History
Socialist Somalia (1969 - 1991)
Somalia was ruled by a Marxist-Leninist military dictatorship.
Civil War (1991 - 2006)
Somalia's socialist government was ousted by several rival clans and a civil war begun that lasted 15 years.
Liberal Somalia (2006 - Present)
The civil war started to come to an end and liberal democratic institutions were set up around the country.
