This article outlines the contradictions of liberalism, or the ways in which liberal governments contradict their own values.
Contradictions
- The United States of America, the largest liberal country in the world, currently has one of the the largest prison populations (inflated by largely nonviolent drug offenses)[1] and also provides military aid to 73% of the world's authoritarian regimes.[2]
- The British Empire preached liberal values whilst it stole a quarter of the world's land and ran its colonies like military dictatorships.
- Liberalism repeatedly falls into dictatorship. This has been experienced in Germany, Turkey, Hungary, Thailand, Guatemala and Chile.
