History
Anarchism largely developed out of four main events following the medieval era in Western Europe, the Enlightenment, German Peasants' War, the English Civil War and the French Revolution. These events led to a questioning of the very concept of government and inequality, with anarchists arguing that these are unnecessary and undesirable ways to arrange societies.
