The Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army of Ukraine, also known as the Black Army or Makhnovshchyna were a large democratic military composed of anarchists and communists during the Russian Civil War in the territory that is now Ukraine. Created and led by Nestor Makhno, the army protected and liberated areas that became the Free Territory of Ukraine.
